Gender equality aftermath of World War II
In the end, men came back home feeling accomplished and wanting their jobs back. They didn't want their wives to work for the money in the family. It made them look bad, saying they weren't the soul financial provider for the family. So all the progress we made with gender equality began to fade. Many babies, also known as baby boomers were born during this time since all the men were coming back from the war and they wanted to create a family to have that perfect American dream. Women went back to taking care of the children, washing dishes, and doing the laundry. Some divorced their husbands, seeing the freedom they had being able to work and earn money, instead of getting allowances from their husbands. Men went back to work and would come home to eat a dinner their wife cooked. The world went back to a nice house, white picket fences, families, and a dog. Shows such as I Love Lucy show the life of a housewife and gives you a general idea of what it was like to be a housewife.
Later on, women were acknowledged more for the work they did and women's rights acts eventually came to be. In the beginning presidents didn't really do much but later they started working on women's rights acts and acts to eliminate discrimination. Racial and gender equality acts didn't happen as fast as we would have wanted to happen but we eventually got equality for everyone.
